Stipple and Wet Blend

This is a stippling and wet blending technique a mate of mine taught me. The objective is to create armour plates that have sharp(ish) edges blended into the core colour but with some unevenness and some faint dappling. It works fine on infantry and vehicles alike.

Step 1: Stipple on a darker shade of the desired edge highlight, In this case red. I applied the red to all of the edging and around about a third of the way into the plates centre

Step 2: I washed the entire area with a black wash including the space between the plates

Step 3: While the wash was still wet I applied a 1/1 mix of black paint/ink to the area but left a strip around the edge of the plate

Step 4: Using a damp brush I blend from the edge of the armour down into the black mix and then back up to about halfway back into the strip l left.

Step 5: once it was dry I touched up the edge with a narrow line of the original red.

There you have it… Thanks for reading.
